Gearing to our clients' needs
: A client is first and foremost a partner
and our lawyers are all business minded. We have a
vast experience regarding legal and strategic counselling
for both Belgian and international companies, including
listed companies. We are committed to providing our
clients with sound legal and strategic advice to prevent
them from getting involved in costly and time-consuming
dispute. Our practice has however always involved
dispute settlement in ordinary courts and arbitration.
High quality services : Our aim
is to provide services with the highest standards
and ensure that our clients receive consistency of
quality.
The choice of trainees, associates and partners
with high academic credentials : Each of
our attorneys is specialised in a specific field of
law. A number of them are not only practitioners but
also work as lecturers or assistant-lecturers in the
Universities. We are frequent speakers at seminars
and we regularly write papers on legal issues. The
list of our publications is on our web-site.
An excellent command of Belgian national
and Foreign languages : Our attorneys speak
fluent French, Dutch, English or German. Therefore,
all our opinions, briefs or contracts are prepared
or reviewed by lawyers having a perfect command of
the relevant language. In addition, we can also work
in Italian.
Provision of integrated services :
Matray, Matray & Hallet is committed to meeting
the growing demand for integrated services. The firm's
practice includes arbitration, corporate law, mergers
and acquisition and restructuring, bankruptcy and
insolvency, capital markets and finance, real estate
and construction, EC law, tax law labour & employment
law, procurements, administrative law and family law.
You will find a list of the lawyers involved in each
of these fields.
Gearing to our client's changing needs :
Recent work has extended Matray, Matray & Hallet's
involvement in blossoming areas such environmental
law, EU law, laws governing tourism, government subsidies,
protection of rights and privacy, human rights, banking
and financing laws, white collar crime, computer laws,
e-commerce and biotechnology...
Focus on International practice :
In addition to its strong position in the Belgian
market, the firm has a broad international reach,
as a result of its network of correspondents and its
expertise in international practice. Matray, Matray
& Hallet is often called upon to assist clients
from common-law jurisdictions with guidance in civil
code -based Belgian litigation. We have a good understanding
of the North-American culture and legal system as
well as of the Asian jurisdictions (due inter alia
to the Flécheux law firm’s connections
in Vietnam)
With a particular emphasis on Germany :One
of our distinguishing features is our close links
with Germany. There has been a long-standing tradition
within the firm to recruit lawyers whose mother language
is German; to be involved in associations promoting
trading relationships between Belgium and Germany;
to establish close relationships with German law firms;
to have an in house German trained lawyer; and to
have an office in Germany. As a result of this policy
a significant aspect of our practice consists of providing
German companies with advices on Belgian law or assisting
Belgian companies that wish to do business in Germany
or that are involved in litigation in Germany. We
have even advised clients in relation to the privatisation
process of major companies from former East Germany.
Organisation of an efficient cross-border
service :To expand its international practice,
the firm is using the experience which it originally
acquired with respect to Germany as well as its long-standing
expertise in the field of international arbitration
and litigation. It has also become member of TERRALEX,
a worldwide network of independent law firms.
A truly independent firm :. All
members of our firm are attorneys and there is no
agreement, even of a financial nature, either direct
or indirect, with individuals who are not attorneys-at-law;
Our offices, based in Liège, Brussels, Antwerp,
Cologne and Paris are independent and we are not subject
to the control of foreign firms or authorities. This
independent structure is another of our distinctive
features as contrary to the case of most Belgian business
law firms, the expansion of our international practice
- via the setting-up of offices outside Belgium and
the development of close cooperation links with foreign
law firms - has not jeopardized our independence.
